In 1901 the German-American Sugar Company was built in West Bay City.
Throughout the 20th Century it weathered tough economic climates, changed hands several times and evolved into the Monitor
Sugar Company that has become a well-known landmark in the area. The Monitor Sugar Company Corporate Collection, comprised
of historical documents, photos and agricultural and factory equipment, was established in 1988 through donations
by individual workers and associates in the name of the Monitor Sugar Company. In 2004 Monitor Sugar was joined with
Michigan Sugar as one grower-owned cooperative under the name Michigan Sugar Company. You can find more
